Next Stone Circle - Friday 28nd of March.

Note that this has been moved from the original date of the 21st of March, due to Easter! Start time is 9:30pm.

This is probably the last one for the season. Should be huge. The last one must have been the biggest ever. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it an awesome night!

You can check out some photos from the February Stone Circle on facebook, from Tull Kidron and from Roger Barnes.

Thanks for the great photos, guys!

I’ve also posted a discussion topic in the Stone Circle group, about what we can do regarding the cops shutting us down early. Please have a read and share your thoughts:

Here’s the text I posted in the topic, if you can’t view it, but I’d appreciate it if people replied on the Discussion Board, so we don’t have 3 discussions going at ones.

——–
We think its time to put the question to the community, as this has become a regular problem in the last couple of years. Strangely it never was before then - we figure we got some new neighbours..

Anyway, so the cops have been turning up at the Stone Circle at around 12:30 - 1am and asking us to stop the music (!!). This seems to happen whenever we get decent weather or an onshore wind, meaning the sound travels well up the street.

People have proposed a number of solutions. I am throwing these out there to see what the general concensus is.

The possible actions are:

1. Start earlier and aim to finish by about 12:30. However we’ve been unsuccessful at getting people to arrive early and even if we did start early, finishing at that time would mean facing the cops each time, as its usually going off and no way will we be stopping on our own..

2. Moving down to the next level down from the Stone Circle - down the stairs to the left. There’s a “semi-stone circle” there and plenty of room. The advantage is that the the hill then blocks the sound from travelling across the park. We’ve held the party down there before and it worked. At the last Stone Circle we moved down there after the cops came and continued to play til 3am, without the police returning. The downside is, well, its not quite as awesome a spot as the circle at the top and there is a bit less room.

3. It has been suggested we move to Bondi Beach, to the corner at the South end, under the rocks there, just before Icebergs. This would mean we’d get a lot more randoms from Bondi, which may be good and bad.. Dont know if we’d still get noise complaints there either.
If anyone has another spot to suggest, feel free.

4. Carry on as before and not give a fuck. Move down the steps after the cops come, as last time.

5. Riot.

Thoughts, people?-

Next Stone Circle - Friday 22nd of Feb.

You know the drill, guys, the February one is always a good one and the weather is looking good - should be an awesome night!

Note that the start time is back to 9:30/10pm - we tried to move it to 8:30am due to numerous requests, but very few people came early, so its back to our regular schedule.

If there’s a strong onshore wind we’ll be moving down the stairs, to the left of the circle, to avoid the noise being carried up the street by the wind. We want to avoid getting those complaints!

Next Stone Circle - Friday 21st of December

Time for the Xmas Stone Circle!

Those who came last time got to experience Nathan Kaye’s fantastic slide guitar and amped didj playing, as well as some of the best fire twirlers around. Nice one! Loved it.

We however did have the cops turn up too (again), at about 1am. That was half expected, as the strong onshore wind carried the sound way up the street. No problem the month before, when we had more (and louder) drums!
So. If there is a strong onshore wind again and the sound is carrying, please set up one level down, just walk down the stairs to the left. Luckily there’s a Stone (semi)Circle down there too. We’ve done that before, plenty or space there, and no problem with sound (and cops).

Oh, and we’re letting up on the early start time, as everyone just turns up at the same time as always.

And if you’re not sure about the weather check here or on the facebook event on the night, I will post to confirm whether its still on.

We’re back for another season! Fri 26th of October is the day.

Woot, summer’s almost here, so back to the Stone Circle we go - bring ye drums, ye fire toys and ye friends. Friday the 26th of October is the day, 8:30pm is the time. We are lucky enough to have the full moon fall on that night too. Nice way to get things started.

NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME!
Due to numerous requests we’re going to start earlier, as some people travel a long way for this. Feel free to get there and get things started earlier than that too.

You may want to wear something warm for this one, as it can still get a bit chilly up on the cliffs at night.

See yaz in the circle!

Boris and Saul

ps. Saul has some drumming workshops running over the next few weeks, check out his SoulDrummer website (link in sidebar).
